Matthew Montgomery
Hello. My name is Matthew Montgomery. I am a native Memphian, though I did move away for a number of years living in different states such as Arkansas and Colorado. I graduated from Memphis City Schools, specifically Craigmont High School, which was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, as being one of the best public schools in the nation. I have always been interested in: history, religion, philosophy, and communications. During my senior year one of activities was working as a DJ for the Memphis City Schools radio station. I entered into the Communications and Fine Arts Program at The University of Memphis. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in History. Later I received my Masters Degree in Teaching from Belhaven University. I have participated in numerous post graduate programs such as The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History at The University of Chicago. I have had a varied career in education. I started tutoring adult students in the literacy program at Literacy Mid-south. I have taught grades 6th-12th, and just about every major subject. I have extensive experience in post-graduate work and certification in helping students who struggle with emotional and mental challenges. I have participated in much post graduate work in the field of psychology. My teaching experience varies a great deal. I taught 9th grade World History at the first charter school in the state of Tennessee. I have taught at private schools dedicated to helping students with various emotional and learning difficulties, such as Daybreak Treatment Center. I have been certified by the states of Mississippi and Tennessee. My endorsements include: English/Language Arts, Communications/Speech, and Social Studies. I hope to one day soon resume my studies and receive my Doctorate in Education. I love teaching Middle School students more than any other age group. Their energy and enthusiasm for life keeps me young. I consider myself to be very lucky and blessed to be a part of your childrens’ lives and the Sacred Heart Family. Being here is answered prayers. My wife Stacy and I have been married for 25 years. We live in Lake Cormorant, Mississippi and most of my family lives now in Desoto and Marshall Counties. We are members of Christ The King Parish in Southaven. We have three dogs: Christmas, Handsome Handsel, and Miss Rosie. I love to read books (only non-fiction), be active in my church, non-profit causes, go on hikes, play with my dogs, and geocaching. Being in nature and the outdoors is my favorite pastime. I am the most passionate about being a constant student myself, always learning new things about as many things in this world as possible. I believe the better student I am, the better teacher I can be. I am very happy to be at Sacred Heart School. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
