Sacred Heart School Alumni
Sacred Heart School is celebrating 65 years of developing young people whose actions reflect knowledge, respect and integrity this year. There are many wonderful traditions from days long past blended with great new traditions. One of those traditions I am certain everyone remembers with fondness is the fun of Catholic Schools Week. Our students are just wrapping up another great experience! The theme the NCEA used this year was “Catholic School Raise the Standards”. I feel this theme is well reflected at Sacred Heart School.
The logo for Catholic Schools Week appears to the right as a bar graph. We are working hard to uphold all of the bars on the graph. Examples of the first bars which represent extracurricular clubs and sports include our representative to the Desoto County spelling bee winning the championship, our Robotics team receiving an invitation to work with NASA engineers on their robot, more than 70 students qualifying to compete in the regional science fair at Ole Miss as well as our 5th and 6th grade girls volleyball team winning the PAA league championship. As the bars get higher so do the standards. Academics have always been a strength of our school. Our curriculum has always been aligned to national testing with our students continuously performing higher than diocesan and national averages on the tests. Our latest scores reflect high standards through all grade levels showing academic growth. Many of our recent graduates are in Memphis Catholic High Schools as the top students in their class. The most important bar on the graph is represented by a cross. Over the last year and half that I have been principal, the staff and I have worked hard to make certain Mass is not something we just celebrate for one hour a week. It is a part of the student’s daily way of thinking and treating others. We have added many spiritually rich activities with more planned for the future. Our students have demonstrated these values toward classmates and visitors to our building.
One goal I have set is our communication with alumni. I would like for our alumni group to receive updates on the wonderful accomplishments of our students so you may remain active members of our school family. On this new page of our website you will find an information sheet. Please fill it out then email it back to my address. The alumni committee of the Advisory Council and I would like to send out electronic newsletters to our school family. If you would like to assist or have any ideas, please let us hear from you.
With Blessing for Peace and Prosperity,

The Cindy Pretti Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
Cindy Pretti was a member of the Sacred Heart School 8th grade Class of 1996. Her younger sisters, Ashley(1998) and Jennifer(2000), also attended Sacred Heart. Cindy loved Sacred Heart School and Church. She went on to Immaculate Conception High School in Memphis. During her junior year, Cindy was killed in an automobile accident on her way to visit The University of Mississippi.
As a testimonial to Cindy and to keep her spirit and memory alive, a scholarship fund was established. Her parents, Paul & Brenda Pretti, her sisters, and her extended family each year present one Sacred Heart 8th grader with a one-time scholarship to the Catholic High School of their choice. Students submit a 500-700 word essay explaining the reasons they wish to continue their education in a Catholic environment. Recipients of the scholarship are announced each May during the 8th grade celebration. The following students have received the scholarship.
